Finally 2024 provided us with some sunny weather & we’ve been able to get some pics of Chris’ finished extension. Read on for the original project post. The lovely review Chris left for us can also be viewed by clicking here.
Chris got in touch with us towards the end of summer 2023. He needed to get planning quickly for a rear extension that he wanted to be built towards the end of the year possibly spilling into 2024. With a traditional build this would’ve been a challenge to get a foundation and any masonry walls built over the winter with the frost and icy weather.
We suggested going with a traditional strip foundation with heavily insulated concrete floor for the substructure, as once planning was approved, there was enough time to get the concrete poured. However for the superstructure we selected a timber frame construction as this allowed the extension to be built when the temperatures dropped and reduced the overall construction period.
Privacy constraints restricted any openings exclusively to the rear elevation, where we suggested a set of sliding folding doors that were the maximum permitted. Extra light was brought into the extension using a flat parapet roof with a sun lantern.
The whole of the exterior extension was finished with a low maintenance weather proof cladding, selected by the client.
